The Rider baseball team won at their first district game last Monday against Little Elm. The game was won by a triple, scored by Junior Nick Russell, at the bottom of the final inning. The Final score was 3-2.
“It’s always been a close game against the Lobos,” head coach Scot Green said. “But I was confident in our players before the game even started.”
Of course the game could’ve gone very differently had it not been for junior Nick Russell’s closing hit.
“I was really nervous walking up to the plate,” Russell said. “I was just thinking ‘do something, do anything.'”
And he certainly did do something.
“I didn’t really feel excited,” Russell said. “I couldn’t really believe what had just happened, I felt weird.”
Coach Green feels this victory was well earned by the team.
“All the guys on the team have had a great attitude,” Grant said. “We’re a different team than we were last year, we’ve lost a lot of our seniors, but everyone is handling it really well.”
And Green knows what to ask for from his team.
“Everyone knows their roles and accepts them,” Green said. “That’s what it takes for a team to succeed.”
With all this in mind both the players and coaches look forward to season.
“This hasn’t changed anything,” Russell said. “We think about it, we just look forward to the next game.”
“I’m really looking forward to this season,” Green said. “I’m excited for this team.”
