Senior Lauren Hernandez is one of six trainers who has been with the program since freshman year. The Rider Chronicle talked with Hernandez about how she feels about being a trainer and her plans after high school.
Q: What made you want to become a trainer?
A: Having an interest in sports, medicine and being able to help out.
Q: What sport do you like being a trainer for? Why?
A: I like being a trainer for baseball the most because I know the game. I know more baseball than football.
Q: What is it like to be a trainer?
A: It’s very exhausting because we’re there before the players and after, it’s just a long week, every week.
Q: What will you miss once you graduate?
A: Spending time with the players and everybody else every day.
Q: How’s being a trainer improved you as a person?
A: It’s helped me become a leader.
Q: How do you feel about being a trainer for Riders last year?
A: I feel excited because I’m able to go to everything because I’m a senior.
Q: What’s the most rewarding thing about being a trainer?
A: Being able to work the varsity games with everybody there.
Q: What do you plan to do after high school? Do you plan on continuing doing something like this?
A: Yes, I plan on going to college at Texas Tech and being an athletic trainer professional.
