Rider’s final volleyball season wrapped up Tuesday with a five-set loss to Granbury. The Rider Chronicle talked with senior Emily Music, who discussed her journey as a Lady Raider and her thoughts on the last year of Rider volleyball.
Q: How long have you been playing volleyball?
A: I’ve been playing volleyball since the eighth grade.
Q: What is your favorite memory from volleyball?
A: Beating Saginaw this year was my favorite memory. It was such a fun game to play, and getting a point and looking up in the stands to see everyone go crazy was just a really cool and fun experience.
Q: What is your favorite Lady Raider tradition?
A: Definitely the dance party before we play. We do them at home and away games before we play, it’s just a good fun thing to hype us up.
Q: Who has been your biggest role model/inspiration?
A: Probably my mom. She has always been so supportive, and she’s always done everything she can to get off work and come to all of my games, between both club and school volleyball.
Q: How have you changed since your freshman year and why?
A: I’ve grown a lot of confidence since freshman year, I was very timid. I was timid about the sport and I was always scared to do stuff and mess up. Now I just have a lot more confidence on the court.
Q: What will you miss the most about playing high school volleyball?
A: The thing I’ll miss the most is being a part of a team because I’ve been a part of a team for as long as I can remember, and being a part of something like that is so much fun. You get to experience literally everything with the team, the team dinners and the dance parties and even just the games.
Q: What are your plans after high school? Do you plan on continuing your volleyball career?
A: I won’t play volleyball in college, but I plan on attending a four-year university somewhere.
Q: What does being a member of the last Lady Raider team mean to you?
A: It’s a really cool experience to say that I was a part of the last Lady Raider volleyball program ever. Being a senior is also really cool, because the last Rider volleyball senior night was my senior night and so it’s kinda cool to have those experiences.
Q: Last message to your teammates, what do you want them to know?
A: I literally love every single one of my teammates, I couldn’t have asked for a better team to end my volleyball career with. Every girl on that team means so much to me, and I can’t wait to see what all of the juniors and sophomores will do.
