“I never once thought that despite all the sadness that surrounds someone, it could inspire such happiness. I knew it existed and it happened to people, but I didn’t think it would happen to me (as cliché as that sounds). I’m excited to start at Midwestern and I feel so blessed by all of the support I have gotten from my people. Thank you for everyone that had a hand in my life up until this point, the teachers, my friends, the people I interviewed, everyone. It’s a bittersweet goodbye, but one I’m okay making now.”

“It’s weird because as crazy and loud as I am, when it comes to taking pictures, I’m anything but center stage. If I’m the one in the selfie, it’s usually a goofy face in 100 different pictures on somebody’s phone because I blew up their camera roll. I don’t like pictures of me, so whenever there is a genuine picture, it’s going to be a group picture with the people I love most.”

Sophomore Taylor Mendez earned a trip to State in Cross Country. In 1999 Debby Thornhill set records for Rider the year Mendez was born, and now, Mendez has broken two records this season the mile at 5.19, and the 32 hundred at 11.22.“I think it is kind of cool, because I had no idea I could go this far,” Mendez said. “It’s just so weird that it has been so long since then.”
