The soccer team has kicked off their season with a win against Granbury and a score of 2-1 for the boys and 4-0 for the girls in their first game last Saturday.
“The one word I would use to define this group would be resilient,” head Coach Joshua Hill said. “As we continue to raise expectations, they continue to meet them.”
Raider Soccer knows what it means to be a team, and the bonds they’ve built over the years come together in the team’s ability to win games.
“The team’s ability to score goals in a variety of ways is one of the team’s greatest strengths,” Hill said. “We can work the ball out of the back, we have the speed to counterattack and we are improving on set pieces.”
All of these will be essential this season if the team hopes to go all the way.
“I am looking forward to the playoffs. We have been very successful the last few years during the regular season, but have yet to breakthrough and make it to the state tournament.”
The Raiders are striving to go further than they ever have in recent seasons, but they know if they want to be the best, they’ll have to address past mistakes.
“Sometimes against strong teams we went away from our style of play,” Hill said.
With this being their last year on the team, the senior varsity players don’t intend to repeat past mistakes.
“We’ve been through a lot together,” fourth year varsity player Juan Orozco said. “We’ve never been more ready to win than we are this season, and we plan on doing that.”
