The bell just rang, and the boys headed to the locker room. As they tie their shoelaces, they think about the journey ahead of them. When they walk outside, the humid heat of Texas air hits them, and they begin to dread the run even more. They set off for their 5 to 10-mile journey, and keep the mindset, of “No pain, No Gain.”
Yesterday’s MSU Stampeded meet seemed to show the gain. The Rider Boys Cross Country over-all placed second. It was a hot, but sweet victory.
“We see early morning, and miserable afternoons with the heat, but it’s what comes with the sport,” Coach Josh Hill said.
Not only the weather, but also the workouts are hard and painful from running two or three miles, to 10 miles on a long day, and running hills.
The workouts and weather are without a doubt hard to endure, but it pays off.
Carpenter Wyatt has showed massive improvement. His time in one race was seven minutes faster than last year. Coach Hill says that improvement is due to Carpenter’s work ethic.
The team recently had a carwash to raise money for the booster club.
“I thought it was real good, not only for the money, but it was great all being able to hangout outside of school,” Hill said. “I think all of the guys enjoyed each other’s company.”
