“Memorial: A Lip Sync Legacy,” Rider’s 25th annual lip sync, premiered last week with a 4-show weekend. This year’s show consisted of 12 songs directed by the members of the theater club.
The show overall was very good with the performers doing an amazing job starring in the different scenes.
The best performance of the night was “Ghostbusters” put together by Rosalie Alfert. It even won the audience’s choice for best performance.
Out of all the other 11 performances, this performance had the best timing. All of the actors were perfectly aligned with one another and had the most extravagant costumes that immediately let the audience know what the scene was about.
The dancing for this performance seemed the most choreographed, with all of the actors doing their dance moves in sync with each other.
From a green ghost to the giant Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, the song had the most and biggest props used compared to any other scene that night.
While “Ghostbusters” was the best performance overall, “Video Killed the Radio Star” by co-directors Logan Beaman and Shannon Cook had the best overarching storyline.
This scene followed a detective (Beaman) trying to figure out a crime and identify the murderer (Keegan Potter) while everyone around him dies. This scene was very good and it’s easy to see how this is many people’s favorite performance of the night.
Some of the standout actors of the night were Analee Alfaro, Rylee Cargal and Beaman. They were able to make every scene that they appeared in very fun and full of life.
The announcers of the show were also a very good contribution to the very high energy that the cast was giving. Cook and Potter worked very well together, managing to get a lot of laughs from the crowd at all times while also performing in many of the scenes.
The drama club did a wonderful job on every scene, picking very catchy songs that caught the audience’s attention. This year’s show was a very good end to many memorable years of lip-syncs.
