World History Essential
Foreign exchange student shares thoughts on why World History should be required course next year
By making World History, a subject that broadens a student’s mind, an elective class, WFISD makes an important decision for the next generation of students. Knowledge of other countries and their history is significant for understanding their cultures.
Sure, it is very important to know about one’s own country because every single citizen represents their country by how they behave and think. We don’t even know the meaning of being influenced by the community and culture we grew up in until we cross the borders of a different one.
The stereotypical American is imagined by foreigners to be uninformed about other countries. The school district should not support this image.
Specifically, American high schools have several different cultures under their roof living, learning, eating and practicing together every day.
America is a big country that is a world power, and educating the next generations about the world’s politics and history is necessary.
If you know a lot about history and you watch the news on a regular basis, you have probably figured out that sometimes history repeats itself. That makes it even more important to learn what happened in order to understand what is happening right now.
This is our world, and even if you’re living in America right now, you don’t know who you might meet or where you’re going to live 30 years from now.
World history is still important and should be a required subject instead of an elective.
