Sunday, Oct. 14 marks the return of the hit television drama/thriller The Walking Dead. However, if you have yet to see the show or missed an episode, AMC is having an all-weekend marathon of the entire series leading up to the third season’s premiere. The marathon will start with the first season Saturday at 9 a.m. and continue with season two at 4 p.m. and will re-air 6 a.m. the Sunday afterward. All of this will lead up to the season three premiere at 8 p.m.
The Walking Dead is a television series that started in 2010 on AMC based on the 2003 comic books series of the same name written by Robert Kirkman. The story follows Sheriff Deputy Rick Grimes and his journey through the zombie apocalypse. Before the outbreak, Rick was on duty in a high-speed chase that soon turned into a deadly shoot-out. During the firefight a hidden assailant appears and fires upon Rick, leaving him greatly wounded and putting him into a coma. When he finally awakes in an abandoned hospital, he’s unknowing to what the world around him has become. He immediately finds himself wondering through the city as he has his first encounters with the undead. After being shaken by all of this and being told what became of this world by a fellow survivor, Rick decides to head to Atlanta, Georgia, a possible safe haven in all of the madness in hopes of finding his wife and son. Little does he know what awaits him in a world ruled by the dead.
If you’re already a viewer or a fan of the comics, then prepare yourself for the thrills coming in season three. Characters from the comics arrive this time around such as the katana wielding heroine Michonne and The Governor, a man who makes the walkers not the only thing to fear in this world, and the survivors find themselves at The Prison. If you’re new to the series, then prepare to be taken on an out-of-your-seat, award-winning, well-written adventure.
Don’t miss the premiere of the third season this Sunday on AMC at 8 p.m. and catch up with the marathon leading up to it beforehand starting Saturday at 9 a.m. Remember, “Fight the Dead, Fear the Living.”
