Worldshaker shook my world. Through the voice of his characters, Richard Harland expressed an amazingly revolutionary story about society and the unfair treatment of lower classes. While it is a fast-paced, exhilarating, slightly romantic, can’t-put-it-down book, this stands true as the underlying message.
The story centers around Col, a young man destined to take control of a large juggernaut, named Worldshaker, that houses an entire civilization. The ship includes the Upper Decks, where the aristocrats live, the Lower Decks, where the manufacturers and workers live, and Below, where the “Filthies” live. The Filthies are a class considered so low by the Upper Deck people that they are treated like animals and made brain-warped slaves. When a Filthy named Riff comes in contact with Col, she changes his opens his eyes to truth and changes his life and his family’s lives.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone who likes a good adventure, and appreciates justice. The author Richard Harland won me over.
