Even though the Memorial and Legacy high schools are almost finished being built, many students still had some questions.
The Rider Chronicle sat down with Principal Dr. Cody Blair to discuss when students will get to enter the schools, how many parking entrances, school start times and more.
Q: When will the students get to see inside the new schools?
A: This summer new student orientations will be scheduled in July or August for each campus, once the schools have received their certificates of occupancy from the city. We hope to provide dates by the end of May of when those will be held.
Q: When will faculty move their stuff into the schools?
A: Staff moves will start in July, beginning with admin/office moves, fine arts, CTE, athletics and teachers to follow.
Q: How do you think the different layout of the school will improve the school’s success?
A: Newer facilities will provide more learning opportunities. We’re increasing the number and size of our spaces for learning and programs, and students will have better access and resources to enhance learning and achievement. We want to capitalize on the excitement and fresh start to build a strong foundation for success.
Q: How many parking entrances will there be?
A: There are 7-8 different parking lots, some will be designated for staff and some for students and visitors. There are four entrances and three exits into the property at Legacy, and four entrances and exits into the property at Memorial.
Q: Will there be any restaurants put into the schools or will it only have a cafeteria?
Students will have several serving line options in the state-of-the-art cafeteria area, along with a separate bistro serving area for grab-and-go options.
Q: What are the start and end times of school going to be?
A: Both high schools will have the same start and end times as we do now, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Middle school and elementary school may be adjusting their times for next year.
