First Rider Student Tests Positive for COVID-19
Wichita Falls Independent School District (WFISD) confirmed its second case of coronavirus in a press release on Wednesday night. The statement revealed that the student attended both Rider and the Career and Education Center (CEC), and that all student and staff contacts have been notified of their low-risk possible exposure to COVID-19. The news comes only one day after the first WFISD coronavirus case was confirmed from a student at Crockett Elementary.
Since students returned to campus on Aug. 20, Rider has put forth effort to combat the coronavirus by mandating masks, wiping down surfaces at the end of each class period, providing additional lunch space, minimizing paperwork handled by students and staff and limiting the exits and entrances to the building, among other procedures. Because of the virus’s 14-day incubation period, time will indicate the successfulness of these preventative measures to ensure the safety of students and faculty. Currently, there are more than 400 Rider students (almost 30 percent) who have opted to learn remotely rather than attend school in-person.
