On Christmas day a man named Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab attempted to ignite explosives on an airplane flying into Detroit from Amsterdam causing heightened airport security across the nation just in time for the busy holiday travel season.
Junior Jade Rumminger flew to Hawaii two days after the attack.
“In Dallas they take it very seriously,” Rumminger said. “They were kind of mean about it. They were yelling across the security area, and they would double check the scans. A guy had a camera and would zoom in on the scans. It was intense.”
Rumminger was surprised when she went to Honolulu that it was almost fun to go through, and much more relaxed than in Dallas.
“Like they were joking around with us,” Rumminger said. “They took it lightly, But not so much that my life was at risk.”
Junior Amy Schrader flew to the Newark International Airport for her trip to New York City. She thought the airport was crazy.
“The lines were long and they checked everything,” Schrader said. “They even scanned my boots.”
