Most students had a rough time going back to school after winter break, but the Rider percussionists had an amazing start to their new year, especially the seniors.
Electronica is going to be brought back for the final year of Rider High School and it has every percussionist excited for this new year.
“I immediately told my best friend and my parents,” senior Seth Pearson said, “because we didn’t know if we were going to get it or not.”
The 14th and final Electronica will be held May 2-4 at Rider’s auditorium and will be titled Electronica: Encore. The performance will rerun some of the favorites from past years and some songs that the members wanted to do for this year’s show.
Among the songs are well-known hits Toto’s Rosanna and Metallica’s Enter Sandman plus percussion ensembles Cop Drama and Technology.
Senior KT Bruce said she’s most excited for Cop Drama because “it’s a percussion ensemble that sounds amazing.” Bruce also is excited there will be one last Electronica.
“I was super excited because I’ve been doing this since freshman year with Mr. (???) Martin and Mr. (Thomas) Borgman and it’s very fun to play with friends,” Bruce said.
When the school year started, all percussionists were left wondering if the last year of Rider’s legacy would end with Electronica, the seniors were the most anxious to know if it was going to happen for the final year.
“I understand because of the new schools,” Pearson said. “But I felt a little left out because it’s my senior year and we were only going to get three. I understand the younger classes aren’t going to get their four years but with all the work we’ve put into it over the last several years I just felt a little upset.”
The percussionists are very excited for this year’s performance, and Borgman, who is the percussion director, said the final show will not only be awesome, but will cap off all the other shows they’ve done.
“I think that over the years it’s started building,” Borgman said. “Not only from a production standpoint but a community involvement standpoint and just from an enjoyment standpoint.”
