You might see some familiar faces in the teaching staff when coming back to Rider High School this year, but there are also some new faces that you might have already met.
You may know coach Marc Bindel, but did you know his wife just started working here too?
Carlye Bindel started teaching seemingly out of the blue, having never taught at all before this year.
“I actually felt an inward calling to get into teaching,” Carlye Bindel said. “As soon as I started taking steps forward toward teaching, the doors started flying open for that to happen.”
Bindel felt she wouldn’t have been a good teacher any time other than right now.
“If I hadn’t felt that stirring, I don’t think I would have pursued something else like teaching,” Bindel said. “I don’t think I would have been a good teacher at any other point in my life.”
Ever since arriving, Bindel feels very welcomed by all of the other teachers and staff. Even the staff from downtown has been very supportive and nice to her.
“The support at Rider from admin and even downtown has been the best,” Bindel said. “The other teachers have reached out to offer help when I need it.”
William Hinkle also joined Rider’s staff this year after hearing a sermon at church.
Hinkle was originally majoring in business, planning on getting a job as a captain of industry. Those plans all changed however when he heard John 2:15.
“The Holy Spirit convicted me in that moment, I immediately knew I needed to change my course,” Hinkle said.
Over the course of a few weeks, Hinkle searched for what his true calling was, even asking for advice from friends.
One of his past childhood friends was the person to convince him to go back to school for another year to get a post-baccalaureate teacher certification.
Hinkle actually experienced some technical difficulties the first few weeks before teaching which caused him to join Rider’s staff later than expected.
“It was a little frustrating at times, coming on board late,” Hinkle said.
A new science teacher has also come to Rider from Midwestern State.
Walynn Williams is 23 and just started teaching fresh out of college. Williams actually became a teacher with the intention of being a coach, too.
“I actually wanted to coach and teaching comes with coaching, but this year I’m actually doing teaching only and not the coaching,” Williams said.
Williams, Hinkle and Bindel don’t know if they will get jobs at either of the new schools as of right now, but they are all happy to be a part of Rider’s last year.
