Two Teams, One Family
Whistles blew, and the first quarter was over. Screams of anticipation for the big game settled, and Wichita Falls Independent School District Superintendent Michael Kuhrt drew the attention of both Raiders and Coyotes.
He announced that student council members would be walking through the stands. As they did, people would be encouraged to donate to the family of Yajaira Garcia, the Wichita Falls High School Senior who was killed on Saturday, November 3.
During the break and continuing into the rest of the game, student council members from both Rider and Wichita Falls High School moved through the crowd, collecting donations.
Also, during the halftime show, the Rider band spelled out Garcia’s initials with a heart to commemorate her life.
Later in the game, when it was all said and done, the announcer reported that over $5,000 was raised to support the family.
